This exciting three-day conference offers a huge range of local, Australian and international art education perspectives, research papers, curriculum presentations, innovative practice, visual arts and VELS workshops, interactive workshops, keynote presentations, artists’ forum, a general forum plus a broad range of studio based workshops.

The early 21st century has signalled changes in all levels of the tertiary, school and early childhood educational environment.

There is an increasing emphasis on authentic and evidenced based research. At the school level, Australian curriculum authorities are evaluating and reviewing curriculum from the early years to year 10, to revitalise and enrich learning and teaching, with an emphasis on student centred, interactive and discursive practices.

This conference provides the opportunity to explore how art educators make explicit the learning and values we believe are implicit in art practice and art education.

Studio based practical workshops.

The two to four hour studio based workshops will be lead by Monash Faculty of Art & Design artist-lecturers and will include ceramics, painting, drawing, printmedia, photomedia, digital imaging, tapestry and jewellery.

  • Learning in an interdisciplinary arts curriculum.

  • The artist researcher as curator.
  • The (new) role of galleries in Art Schools.
  • Through the Looking Glass: auto-ethnography as self portrait.

  • Creativity: Cultural identities in a state of becoming.
  • Cultural diversity and creative development: the role of art education.
