Announcing a New Student Art Exhibition for Students in Years 9 - 12

In 2009 AGRA, in association with Art Education Victoria and Art Education Australia, will host an exhibition for art students who are in years 9 to 12. The purpose is to encourage students to excel in their subject and to foster the interest and development of ‘realist’ art as an important segment of the wider artistic world.

Digital images of work created in a two dimensional medium at school should be sent to AGRA in October and November 2008. Visit the AGRA website for details.

The Exhibition will take place for two weeks in February 2009 at the AGRA Galleries in Camberwell, Victoria. There will also be an on-line exhibition on the AEV and AEA websites.

Awards:

  • Exhibited artists will receive a certificate of recognition.
  • Vouchers for art supplies for winners of a peoples’ choice award.
  • A special one year Student Membership of AGRA.
  • A special one year Individual Teacher membership for each of AEA and AEV (for a new member)

Art teachers throughout Australia are urged to encourage their students to enter their work for this important new exhibition which aims to nurture young artists through the display of their work in a professional gallery space. Download a flyer here.

Monash University are offering honours and postgraduate programs in art and design theory.

Art teacher / illustrators?

Are there any art teachers interested in illustrating some short genre-style stories for a small magazine being planned? Also any writer-illustrators or writer and illustrator collaborators for one or two comic strip stories? Details and a shortened, not-for-sale sample version of the magazine is on the website  www.rmsed.com.au. The aim is to produce a larger, for-sale version, at this stage probably on-line only.

Study VCE Art by Distance Education an option for students

It is most unfortunate that some students give up on their aspirations when they find out that they cannot do VCE Art in their own school.  Sometimes there are too few students to make up a class and other times there are timetable clashes. Senior art teachers wanting to advise students of their options can find further information at: http://www.distance.vic.edu.au/subschools/vcesubjectinfo/art/units12.html

UNESCO Young Digital Creators Project: Call for participation

UNESCO’s Young Digital Creator’s project (YDC) is a UNESCO web-based project that allows young participants of different cultures to gradually construct, through a collaborative process and creative digital tools, a deeper understanding of each other’s cultural values, special reflections and general concerns related to major issues of our time: Water, HIV/AIDS, Urbanization etc.

Using creative artistic software with an open interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, young people will be able to create a series of textual, musical, visual or/and multimedia materials (in progress creative works). The creation of digital art works will be synchronized with on-line discussion forums of exchanging views. There are currently three separate projects that interested classes from schools all over the globe could participate in.
