I strived to re-create the feeling of being amongst a large group of people standing outside Festival Hall, waiting for a show. The figures in this painting depict the typical stereotype of punk fans today. I chose Festival Hall as a symbolic motif of punk music. So many incredible bands have played their best shows at Festival Hall and I love live shows there. There is something about the grungy and grimy hall, packed with thousands of people that makes live music – punk music – come alive. Punk music is all about the live show over a recorded album, the connection with the fans and like-minded people. To me, the punk lifestyle goes beyond Vans shoes and Dickies but is essentially about saving your money for concert tickets, sharing your love of music – past and present, being loud and expressive and most importantly anti-establishment. The culture of punk is to question authority figures!
