Spinning Carnival

My inspiration for the photograph ‘Spinning Carnival’ was triggered by Anne Zahalka’s photograph titled ‘Crowning Ceremony, Jacaranda Festival, Grafton, 2000’. Her image portrays a carnival scene with gathered companions enjoying the surrounding entertainment. The photograph inspired me to capture the traditional carnival-like atmosphere which I accomplished by focusing on a familiar icon which most carnival enthusiasts can associate with – the merry-go-round. I wanted the merry-go-round to be the chief focal point of the composition, which is the reason I captured the icon standing directly in front taking up the whole frame and with every aspect in focus. Carnivals are traditional. Tradition is what I captured.
