In Year 5 this year we studied the Aboriginal culture. On our turtles’ shells
we put some of the more common Aboriginal symbols. The turtle is important
in Aboriginal culture. The skull of the first turtle killed by a young man
is painted and put under a shelter. The water in the background of our turtles
represents how much Australians love the beach.

In term two our year level was studying ‘Australians All’. The reason why we made the turtle was because the turtles were special to the Aborigines. When the turtles died the Aborigines coloured their skulls and placed them in shelters. We drew some of the Aboriginal markings with white markers. The water background shows how much we love the beach.
