Modern Geisha
20cm x 15 cm Cardboard mask, acrylic paint, wool
In art classes we studied the cultures and art (masks) of three Asian countries:
Japan, China and Indonesia. I chose to do a geisha mask, which I wore in
the Asia Week festival parade. I chose the Japanese geisha mask as I identified
with the young Japanese girl and the plight of young women in Japan in the
past. I used the traditional white face with contrasting black, pink and
gold for decoration to create a stunning, eye-catching mask.
