At the Carnival
59.5cm x 39cm Watercolour, glitter paint, diamantes, pens
As a class we researched carnivals and what kinds of people were typically
involved in them. I enjoyed learning about the costumes worn in the carnivals
in Venice, although I didn’t end up painting my person in a Venetian
setting. My inspiration came from the modern carnival such as the Melbourne
Show, which was on at the time. I thought about clowns, carousels and circus
tents and all the typical characters and objects. I ended up adding a few
detailed pictures in the background. I added some glitter, diamantes and
a pattern to her mask. My portrait expresses the feelings of being happy
and having fun at a carnival.
