‘Grandpa’s Garden’
100cm x 75cm. Acrylic, canvas.

Instead of painting a detailed garden I chose to use grandpa’s tree as a focal point, symbolising life. I applied the paint spontaneously to create realism. Using broken brush strokes and a palette knife I produced a textured look. There is a strong sense of light on grandpa to illuminate his face and to create a warm, loving atmosphere.
I incorporated the sign because it is a feature that never changed even though the garden around was constantly changing with the seasons. I dedicate my painting to my grandma and family whom I am sure also experienced the magic of grandpa’s garden.
