‘Cubby Tree’
Papier mache, paint, tree twigs, fake moss, string, cardboard cylinder, toy tyre.
My artwork was inspired by a memory from my childhood. I lived on a farm and spent a lot of my time climbing trees, one tree in particular, which I built a cubby house in. The tree was special and magical to me. I climbed it to escape from the outside world, to be isolated and away from all the problems of everyday life. I felt so free, high in the branches, or swinging on the tyre swing, which hung from one of the branches. I decided to create a 3D model to show the scale of the tree, compared to me sitting in it. Realism was created through the use of natural materials such as tree twigs and moss. Paper mache and natural colours were used to create the trunk.
