With this photograph I was exploring the theme of human impact on the environment by juxtaposing the natural sea and palm trees with the man-made structures. I wanted to emphasise the straight clean-cut geometry of the bridge and road and the way this familiar structure can look unfamiliar when observed from a different angle, whereas palm trees are always recognisable. I decided to use a long exposure time at sunset, so that I could get the artificial colours of the night to reinforce the man-made versus the natural.
