In 1940 the Australian artist Charles Meere painted an idealistic vision of the Australian way of life with sun, surf and sand. In 1989 Anne Zahalka appropriated this image choosing to reinvent it showing a more realistic vision of what Australia was like in the late 1980's. In my work 'The Bathers 2010' I have once again chosen to appropriate Meere's image, but this time reflecting a vision of a possible future where clones could take over the beach.
